Well, I don’t really approve of this, but it is pretty funny – this person has only voted for 1 website in their entire month on StumbleUpon, but has 67 fans. How did they do it? I think the picture is the (unfortunate) answer. [UPDATE: a commenter notified me that this member is up to 69 fans].

How did I find this person? Well, ‘Poohbaby‘ (what the heck does THAT mean?) messaged me as shown below. My inbox on SU is remarkably spam free, and I hope this isn’t the beginning of a trend.

This site rox the sux, which, according to the Urban Dictionary means it “excells in that which is undesireable” and “contains undesireable characteristics.” It is also “believed to have undesireable origins.” I think this fits all of the above.
Certainly this blog is really good at being bad – some posts are so confusing even I don’t know what I’m talking about. It also contains flaws left and right – just look around at the haphazard and ever-growing categories and terrible design! Worst of all, the only reason I started this site was because I realized that the domain wasn’t taken and I have a 6-letter-domain fetish. Yet here it is, with regular readers and high ranks all around. How crazy is that? Uhh, thanks!

Most people expect their whole world to be slowly digitized, but what would happen if we ran reality in reverse? Something to think about:

Except for a few spikes from disasters (which Bush largely botched) the President has had a steadily decreasing approval rating virtually since day one. I for one don’t buy the conspiracy theories that suggest he has orchestrated world disasters, but it isn’t hard to see how these have benefited him by slowing his steady decline. If things continue at this rate, he’ll reach zero in no time.

Today: Top stories of what sucks in the world. A Medevec nurse was partially sucked through a broken window in an airplane, but managed to hold on and pull himself back in. We all know that it does, but here are some more reasons why digital cable really sucks. Supposedly, politically correct body armor sucks, though I find it hard to believe that less is more when people are shooting at you. Here are some good reasons why waiting in line for an iPhone sucks. Finally, if your love life sucks, you can use this patended wall-climbing robot that uses suction to climb walls to spy on your significant other.

Oh, wait, no it doesn’t. So why would I write a headline like “StumbleUpon Sucks?” Well, to be honest, I wanted to outrank the idiot who actually thinks that and is sometimes ranked #1 on Google searches for that phrase! UPDATE: this page is now ranked third on Google for StumbleUpon sucks’ – thanks to the power of you Stumblers! Heading for number 1!

In point of fact, StumbleUpon does not suck at all. It is a great tool both for meeting interesting people and for finding amazingly interesting websites. Frankly, I have discovered more interesting graphic design, political commentary and other off-beat sites through StumbleUpon than through many other sucky social news, networking and bookmarking sites.
Why should you believe me? Well, they don’t pay me to say this, so that’s a start. Just download the toolbar and try it yourself. Set some random keywords about stuff you like and come back here and tell me you don’t like it! If you DO like it you might want to link back to this post so it outranks that other one.

Wowzers, amazing hit-overload from a lot of PR6+ sites over the last few days have totalled our rather modest hosting abilities. Fark alone has sent over 16,000 hits as well as 250+ comments, both supportive and critical – so the best of both worlds! Anyway, in the meantime our interface is a bit crazy and images are difficult to manage. If you doubted it before, never doubt it again: this site really does sux!

The Conservapedia is a conservative version of Wikipedia that is anything but what it claims to be: an “encyclopedia you can trust.” The Conservapedia goes to great lengths to indicate that Wikipedia is full of trivial and even misleading articles, and emphasize the high quality of their own offerings. OK, agree or disagree, that sounds interesting, right? Let’s check out their mission statement:

A different take on things than Wikipedia, from a conservative perspective. Fascinating! Heck, I’ll admit – even as an active Wikipedia user – that both good and bad articles get published, it’s part of the shared knowledge system. However, right next to their mission statement they have a breaking news story that implies Wikipedia editors are in on a murder plot. For the moment let’s just look at the story, and table the obvious question: why, of all of the breaking news stories in the world, does theirs concern Wikipedia and some WWF pro wrestler?

First, there is nothing to suggest subsequent edits weren’t made by people who read the first edit. What sounds like a conspiracy theory is actually a lone gunman scenario. Moreover, the term ‘editor’ to a non-Wikipedia user probably implies someone in a position of authority and oversite. However, the person in question was an anonomous user. In fact, anyone in the world could have made that edit! That is the equivalent of implying that an anonomous caller to a news tip line is a reporter. Whew, OK, let’s catch our breath here and look farther down the site. Oh wait, this sounds promising:

Well nice! Yes, the Conservapedia insists that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago but at least they’re open to other viewpoints, right? Well, right under the above section on the front page we find something rather surprising. Specifically, a pair of quotes, from the bible and history respectively, that show a rather impressively definitive perspective:

The biblical quote is fairly harmless – though it still calls into question how welcome unbelievers truly are on the site. Much more interesting is the historical quote. So wait, let me see here, democracy is built on a belief in God … which really only the church can provide a basis for. So, in other words, we won’t have a whole democracy in the long run unless we are a fully Christian nation? Wow. OK, so we welcome the heathens … so we can convert them?
At this point, what else is there to say? There are plenty of more hilarious, bizarre and downright strange articles to look at on Conservapedia. Still, if you want to learn more about the Conservapedia in a technical, logical or reliable sense, you might as well look at the Wikipedia article on Conservapedia. You’re at least somewhat more likely to get a straight answer that way.
