You Do Realize …

… that this is my personal weblog right? I mean, sure, at times I strive to entertain and such, but at the end of the day this is where I dump the leftover contents that simply won’t fit in my brain. Sometimes I post multiple times in a day to get the lead out, and other times I forget to post for days because I’m simply too busy. I rarely get feedback (hint hint, wink wink!) so I trudge along as if no one is listening despite the (apparently insane?) daily visitors and subscribers to this site.

Anyway, so, what am I doing that is distracting me from writing here you may ask? Or you may be asking yourself why you subscribe to such shite, but let’s assume the positive for the moment! Let’s see, well, I’m doing a lot of management, editing and writing for Web Urbanist. I’m also plugging away at new ideas and promotional strategies for Romlet. Most of all, though, I’m trying to finish up my architectural thesis.

OK, let me explain where this self-reflection is coming from: I chatted with someone today and realized that I leave this site scattered around the interwebs as my homepage. Well, it is my homepage of sorts, in more ways than one. It is one of few sites that I manage all by my lonesome. It is also the first blog (heck, website) that I ever owned and operated. In a great many regards this is my home base. It is where I come back to when I want to spew nonsense into the void or have an axe to grind, which also ties back into the original idea behind the domain name (yes, AllSux was a rant blog to begin with!). Don’t we all need a shoutbox of some kind?

I always read over my posts before submitting them for ‘publication.’ However, this is the one site on which I don’t edit myself for run-on sentences, bad grammar, or really most anything else. I read the posts over to make sure I haven’t missed anything. Well, I haven’t! So goodnight!

More Crackheads? With Guns?

So I could make this a long story, or a short one. It’s late, so I’ll opt for the latter. Long story short: someone walked by, asked a few questions from the street, and cops drove by and arrested him. His questions seemed, well, off – like he was trying to avoid suspicion by blending in with the local population. The cops stopped him even though he appeared to be talking to us (myself and the others out front).

A cop came by a few minutes later, asked if we knew the guy. He also informed us the guy was carrying a gun, which may have been used earlier in the day to fire 7 shots around the corner – a revenge-shooting for some gang activity south of town. I happened to have been around when those shots were fired. He also took a moment to inform us we live in a ‘bad neighborhood.’

Do we? Really? Most of the crackheads are nice folks. No one has shot at me or in my general direction. Hard to say. What do you think? I suppose its time I added a ‘crackhead’ tag to this blog.

When in Doubt, Write About Crackheads

Sometimes I get into a bit of a writing slump, or am simply stretched too thing between various projects. However, with my new place of residence I’ve found there’s always a wealth of potential material (literally) right outside my door. The only unfortunate part is that I don’t have video capability to actually record what goes on. Hope text is a bit entertaining at least.

Sometimes I sit on my porch with a laptop watching the world go by, or I sit at my desk near a window on the second floor looking out. At least once a day I see what appears to be crackheads and dealers going about their business.

IÂ walked to the corner store the other day to buy a bottle of wine. There was a car pulled over with a cop car behind it. I walked into the store, which was across the street from this scene. There was a group of kids (late teens or early twenties) whispering not-quietly-enough about whether or not they had run into the store too fast when the cops pulled that guy over outside. They were also blaming one another for potentially calling attention to themselves.

Also in the last few days I heard a gunshot outside, though I couldn’t see from where. Two kids scurried off quickly into the night in front of the house. Other times there are cars parked outside with tinted windows. People come and go from these cars, and I can see lighters being sparked inside of them. I suppose it’s theoretically possible they’re just smoking cigarettes. Anyway: crackheads. Always something new.

Some Blogs to Watch Out For

It’s been too long since I gave out some link love, and sorry long-time blogger buds but I’m going to stick to new blood on this one! Here are some newer bloggers (or at least newer to me!) who I think you should take some time and check out:

You absolutely must see this blog with ghostly images of abandoned places and narrative subtitles – it is a bit like watching a movie the way the images tell the story. The site is brand new but sure to gain some momentum fast.

This cool blogger is looking for some folks for a digital artistic collaboration – strictly non-profit good-for-the-soul stuff, and make no mistake: she has creativity to burn (maybe I can get her to redesign this craptastic blog for me someday).

Joe over at Arsenal Marketing is working hard at things, and I expect that (with some link-love from yours truly!) he’ll be in good shape for his first PR update. I’m not a big fan of blogs-about-blogging-and-money in general but he seems like a standup guy- and nice blog redesign Joe!

Spintega is an old pal o mine, well, online anyway, and he just got a website sort of up and running. He’s a real whiz at design and whipped up that page design in a few short minutes.

Romlet isn’t a blog or blogger or anything like that, but a brand new blog widget for boasting and boosting popularity. It’s kind of like the MyBlogLog widgets, a FeedBurner stats counter, and other stuff all rolled into one. If you have a blog – you need a Romlet (mine’s right over there! ->)

There’s someone else I’m supposed to give some link love too but I can’t find his URL for the life of me – I swear he has a disallow->Google in his index.php because I can’t find him anywhere on the interwebs. So if you’re out there, and mad because I’m not giving you link love, lemme know!

7 Things You Might or Might Not Want to Read

OK, so it’s been quite a few weeks and I’ve been spread pretty thin on the blogosphere. I want to know what you want to read, because honestly, I’m not sure exactly why thousands of people read this blog every single day! I’ll give you some options, and if you’re feeling bold, leave a comment with your name as a link to your website. If you’re not feeling bold, just leave an anonymous response. If you’re feeling lazy – as apparently many of my readers are – just twiddle your thumbs and laugh at me for even requesting feedback!

1) More Top Ten or Whatever Link Lists: Those seem to do pretty well overall – lots of people click the links, leave comments, etc… I suppose I should take that as a sign to keep making them!

2) More Random Images and Videos: These are also fairly successful – high comment ratio and fairly light reading if you just like skimming the interwebs for random weird stuff.

3) The Latest News on my Internet Stalker: Well, the guy won’t leave me alone, I figure there may be a few people who think it’s funny when I rant about this fact, but I’m probably wrong.

4) How I Keep Getting Posts to the Digg Front Page: That’s strangely right folks, somehow 4 of the last 6 articles I’ve submitted have hit the Digg front page. I have apparently figured out how to be a pro-Digger of sorts, and am happy to share my experience with others if people want to read about it.

5) Why Articles on Sites I Develop Keep Getting Dugg: 4 of he last 5 articles on the other blog I write for and develp have hit the front page, whether or not I submitted them – each getting 50,000 or more hits as a result, as well as secondary PR and traffic from incoming links. Want to know why?

6) Rants, Raves and Scandals: This site was founded primarily as a place to vent about random injustices on the web, from sites that rip people off to others that ban people without cause. Do you miss the good old days where I pushed the limits of the interwebs and then bashed sites when they bit back?

7) I Could Care Less What You Write: Yes, apparently there are some readers who hang on to this craptastic site no matter what it spews. Why is that? I’ll never know. Maybe it has to do with the entertaining randomness of it all, or perhaps there is truth and honesty in raw trains of thought.

Who the Heck Are You People?

OK, so AllSux.com gets a few thousand hits a day, and 50-some odd (probably in both senses of the term, but don’t worry, I love oddballs!) people have even subscribed to the feed, despite the RSS info being jammed way at the bottom of the sidebar. So who are you people? Hi from AllSux!

WTF is up with WTF?

The average number of comments on AllSux is 2 per post, which (supposedly) is typical – because less than 1% of blog readers leave comments on average. So, I suppose I can’t reasonably expect you to come out of the closet and leave a comment just because I ask. Nonetheless, hello out there [he shouts into the interweb abyss].

That is all :)

One Last Ego Trip Before Returning to Our Regularly Scheduled Rants

OK, so umm … if you’re not reading WebUrbanist, you’re missing out:

WebUrbanist Alexa Stats

Oh, and here’s me on on the members page of MBL. I’m standing on a 40-ton slap of concrete suspended in mid-air at the Burning Man festival … I think about 3 or 4 years ago. No, I’m not wearing a shirt. But no, I am also not naked. Check here for some more amazing photos of Black Rock City.

BREAKING: Allsux Author Picked as Hottest Member from 200,000 MyBlogLog Users! Maybe All Doesn’t Sux?

Well I have to say I’m pleased as punch about being selected as the lastest Hot Member on MyBlogLog. This site, for new readers tuning in, this site is filled with assorted randomness, from silly images and strange videos to really weird news. It has taken a lot of big-name internet companies to task, from LiveLeak to Digg and Helium and many others along the way. Possibly the only site I have posted only positive praise about is MyBlogLog.

Why? Because they actually care about the people who use their site, respond to concerns and suggestions promptly and helpfully – and all in order to create an amazing place to find great blogs and cool bloggers. In short: they’re the biggest web company I know of that hasn’t sold out their principles and personal investment in what they do as a result of their success. So yes, ‘all’ does ‘sux’ … except MyBlogLog!

So join in the fun and join up here for the AllSux and WebUrbanist communities. Also, a round of applause to Robyn and Eric who have turned MyBlogLog into the best blogging community online! Not a member? Whether you’re a blogger or a blog-reader the best way to find interesting blogs and bloggers online is through MyBlogLog!!!

P.S. No they don’t pay me :)
